I did not want to learn to do Galavasana (Flying Pigeon Pose) to prove anything or "be" anything. I saw it in a book and thought it was beautiful and wanted to be able to do it. When I was able to do it, I felt connected and centered, I felt strong, I felt free. These are all things that come from a regular yoga practice, whether you end up being able to Galavasana or not.

"Yoga is a Release from Pain"
Well, again, it SHOULD be. Unfortunately, not all yoga being taught these days has that result or goal, but if you choose the right yoga class for your goals and ability, that's exactly what should occur, a release from pain. It may not always feel like a release from pain in the moment. The stretching and strengthening that comes from a regular yoga practice can cause some discomfort during class, but for most that discomfort is rewarded with longer term pain relief.
