My teaching style is much like my personality, outspoken, a bit quirky, but practical and caring. In my teaching, I try to keep things light and fun, but challenging and focused. I do not follow a particular style of yoga. I focus on breath, listening to the body, and proper alignment. I work to help my students integrate the mind, body and breath in a way that leaves them feeling calm, yet strong and renewed.
The first time I stepped onto a yoga mat, over 20 years ago, I walked out of class after about 10 minutes. I was bored. I wasn't aware that there were different types of yoga and gentle yoga wasn't the one for me at the time. It took me seven years to step on a mat again, but when I did it felt like home. After that, I practiced and took classes when I could and I often visited Kripalu a couple times a year. During a visit I noticed that every time I passed by the catalog display a little voice inside me would say "yoga teacher training". I ignored it. But, every time I went back to Kripalu, it got louder. Finally, in January of 2007, I listened and started looking for a training program that suited my needs. I completed my

The meaning of YANA (pronounced yahnah)
Yana is a Sanskrit word that means: A vehicle or method of getting somewhere. Whether it be physical, spiritual, emotional or mental growth that you are seeking, yoga can be a powerful vehicle to "get you there". An open mind and showing up are all that are required! I look forward to being there with you on your journey.
Ellen has been practicing yoga for over 14 years. She is grateful for the countless positive changes yoga has brought her. "It has helped me cultivate patience and develop strength and flexibility and I have definitely become calmer and clearer. I had been toying with the idea of becoming a yoga teacher for a while, primarily because I knew how much it helped me and I wanted to share that with others. I finally took the plunge in January 2011 when I began a 7 month Yoga Teacher Training Program. I am so glad I did, and so happy to now be sharing my love of yoga through my teaching."
An educator by nature and by training, Ellen received her Bachelor's in Elementary Education and Master's in Educational Psychology from the College of St. Rose and taught kindergarten for 10 years. For the last 17 years she has been the Membership Director at the University Club in Albany. "When people ask me what I do there I always tell them; I'm like Julie McCoy on The Love Boat. I plan, organize and market events, get to know the members and their families, bring people
together, make them comfortable, and help them celebrate important events in their lives. So, it's my job to help people and make them happy. How great is that?!"
Ellen is enthusiastic about expanding her calling to help others through the gift of yoga. Ellen teaches on Thursday night and Kids Yoga on Sunday. Ellen grew up on a dairy farm in Johnsonville, New York where she learned to love animals and appreciate nature, hard work, family and friends. She still loves the outdoors, enjoying such activities as hiking, camping, kayaking and fly fishing, especially when it is with her husband John. She also enjoys gardening, reading, photography and scrapbooking. Ellen and John have grown twin boys.
yoga teacher training in April of 2007 at Shoshoni Ashram outside of Boulder, CO and became a RYT, Registered Yoga Teacher. I am now an E-RYT (Experienced, Registered Yoga Teacher) with over 4,500 hours of teaching experience.
I grew up in small town outside of Ithaca, NY. I now live in Clifton Park. I have a diverse work and education background. My work experience includes sales and marketing, management and leadership, real estate and interior design, and other miscellany. I have owned and helped manage several businesses over the years which has helped me develop a diverse skill set. My thirst for knowledge kept me busy in my younger years. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business and several certificates (one year programs) including, Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Hospitality Management. Some of the things in life that I am passionate about are my children, teaching and sharing yoga with others, nature, today's environmental issues, and healthy food (especially when it is shared with friends and family!). I enjoy many outdoor activities like rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, and cross-country skiing. I feel honored to have the opportunity to own such a transformative business. From I-87: Get off Exit 12 and head East towards Malta. Malta Commons is on your right (at the round-about where Panera is). Turn into the plaza from the round-about then turn LEFT at the "T", then your second right. There should be signs to help guide you. (should, because sometimes they mysteriously disappear and we have to order more). We are facing "The Lofts" apartments.
From Rt. 9: There are two entrances to the plaza from Rt. 9. Both of them are SOUTH of the Rt 9/Dunning St. traffic circle (circle where Stewarts, Malta Diner are). One is near the Malta Diner and the other is a bit further south and has a street sign and says "Saratoga Village Blvd". Either one of those entrances will bring you to the plaza. There should be signs to help guide you. We are near the YMCA. We are facing "The Lofts" apartments.

Jen began to practice yoga in an effort to reduce the stress of a very intense restaurant management career. Yoga not only became a refuge, it became a savior and a passion. After a few years of exploring and deepening her personal practice, the opportunity to take a month long intensive teacher training arrived. It was the start of a new career and a new life.
Jen approaches yoga instruction as an opportunity to assist the student in building a better, stronger and more in-depth relationship with themselves. Using postures, breath work and meditation to deepen the mind-body connection, students in Jen’s classes learn to listen to their own wisdom to make safe and healthy choices on and off the yoga mat. You will leave feeling refreshed, peaceful and energized. With patience, imagery and gentle humor Jen creates classes that are challenging, therapeutic, relaxing and fun.
Jen is a Certified 500 hour Professional Level Kripalu Yoga Teacher, certified in Thai Yoga Massage, and registered with Yoga Alliance and has over 10 years of experience teaching yoga at studios and gyms across the country.
